This week, the U.S. House of Representatives will vote on a funding bill for military spending. Republican leadership has snuck in $1.6 billion into the bill to begin construction on a border wall expansion.
As of now, members of Congress will be forced to vote up or down on the bill package without ever having an opportunity to debate the wall spending.
The Southern Border Communities Coalition opposes spending on a wall as a wasteful and unnecessary symbol of division. Instead of investing in tactics that divide us politically, Congress should be investing in improving the infrastructure of our ports, hiring more inspectors to facilitate the legitimate flow of people and goods that help our region and country thrive economically, and expanding oversight to ensure border agents respect human rights.
TODAY, WE MUST STOP CONGRESS FROM APPROVING THIS BILL AND WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Hello,
"My name is ________, and I live in << insert city>>. I am calling to ask <<insert your Representative’s name>> to VOTE NO on the minibus that would provide $1.6B to the Department of Homeland Security for an unnecessary border wall. Instead of investing billions of dollars in more walls that don’t work, we should invest the money in upgrading our crumbling ports of entry and hiring more inspectors to improve trade and tourism.
You took an oath to represent the best interests of your constituents, and I can assure that wasting $1.6B on a wall is not what our communities need. This wall will threaten wildlife habitats, sever border residents from their lands, and stand as a symbol of division."
Thank you
