When Operation Gatekeeper was implemented on October 1, 1994, it transformed the borderlands, and kicked off a decades-long legacy of abuse, destruction and death. On the 25th anniversary of its implementation, southern border communities are saying “enough,” and rising for a month of resistance against myopic enforcement-only border policies.
We’re calling for our community leaders, elected officials and 2020 presidential candidates to leave behind the deadly legacy of Operation Gatekeeper and take up a #NewBorderVision, one that expands public safety, upholds human rights and welcomes all people to our borders.
