New video series explores Border Patrol’s decades-old culture of violence, corruption and impunity featuring those who know the agency best: former agents
SOUTHERN BORDER -- Southern Border Communities Coalition (SBCC) launched a new video series called “Breaking the Green Line” featuring Jenn Budd, a former Senior Border Patrol Agent and San Diego Sector Intelligence Officer. Budd left the Border Patrol after witnessing firsthand the corruption and abuse that have been a staple of Border Patrol for several decades.
The Border Patrol continues to operate with little to no oversight, accountability, or transparency, leading to abuses and deaths across our nation’s borders. Under the Trump Administration, the Border Patrol is set to grow even larger, with more agents, and more miles of a deadly and dangerous wall, further militarizing the Southern Border.
In this original video series from SBCC, former agent Budd talks about why she left the Border Patrol in 2001 and shares her first-hand experiences to shed light on the Federal government’s most corrupt, abusive, and out-of-control agency. Budd joins border communities in calling for accountability, transparency, and an end to the culture of impunity that U.S. Customs and Border Protection, which includes the Border Patrol, have fostered for so long.

Vicki B. Gaubeca, director of the Southern Border Communities Coalition said:
“We are excited to kick off this video series that explores the Border Patrol’s long standing culture of violence, corruption and impunity from the people who know the agency best: former border agents. We applaud Jenn Budd’s courage to stand up to an agency infamous for terrorizing border communities, separating families and inflicting deaths and abuses with near to total impunity. Her message to other agents to lay down their guns and badges is one we hope is heard and heeded by others.”
Jenn Budd, former Senior Border Patrol Agent, said:
“I’ve been talking about Border Patrol corruption and abuse for years, and so am excited to be a part of the “Breaking the Green Line” series to shed light on this important issue. The motto of the Border Patrol is “Honor First.” The agency, however, has not lived up to that honor as it has abused its power by terrorizing communities, separating families, jailing children, and shooting teenagers playing near the fence. If you are an agent and you are not speaking the truth, then you are on the wrong side of history. I call on current and former agents to join me by speaking up and by helping to put and end to the abuse and impunity. At the very least, they should lay down their guns and badges. I did it. So can they.”
